Quotes Jason Mackay
“Bushy is a dog with a really big motor”
“I think he has the best finish of any dog in Australia”
“He turned in one of the biggest runs I've ever been associated with in his Richmond Derby heat when he came from 6th to win by a length and a half in 30.73. They just don't do that”
“As far as a stud dog goes, he has a lovely temperament and was one of the best travelling dogs you could ask for, while he was such a good kennel dog you could put him in race 20 without a problem”

His litter mates:
He cam from a litter of nine who all won races.
5 of his sisters won maiden finals at Richmond.
Black Anubis broke the Bathurst 700m track record, won at Wenty over 720 and was a finalist in the 2007 Group 1 Silver Collar in NZ.
Satin Teddy won 6 from 13, ran 35.88 at Richmond and won over 720m at Wenty.
Strapper still holds the 618m record at Bathurst breaking Bushy's record twice.
General Barker 30.80 at Richmond.

The next Litter, Also Go Wild Teddy X Bi Colour.

Instant Decision won first up at Gosford over 400m in near record time.

BUSH LEGEND
BREEDING
Quote from Lance Day

“Not only could Bush legend run, but he came from a litter of nine, with all progeny winning races. Two of his sisters held track records at Bathurst and another two won over the 720m at Wentworth Park.”

“Bi Colour, the dam of Bush Legend, is by that great broodbitch sire Golden Currency and her dam line goes all the way back to the great foundation Wheeler bitch, Gail's Beauty.”

Looking at the sire line, he is by Go Wild Teddy who is one of the best bred dogs ever to go to stud, and like Bush Legend, he also comes from a very well performed litter.”

He also has that very successful Rasmussen cross of the half brothers Brother Fox and Acacia Park on the all important third line of his pedigree.”

“Go Wild Teddy has been a great success at stud and Bush Legend is the ideal son of his to take his place in the coming years.”
"BUSHY"
A DOGS TALE
Bushy was born and raised on our country property at Molong. We also bred and raised his mother Bi Colour (Flash) who is still with us in retirement and is destined to spend her latter days at the beach when we move soon.

We are hobby breeders and trainers and just breed the one litter every couple of years and race our own stock. Our place has been described as dog heaven as we lavish all “the goodies” on our babies in their tender years.

Bushy was the biggest of his litter and just had that “come pat me” look from when he was a pup. His early days were spent romping with his brother and sisters, noshing down on good tucker along with daily pats and fusses.
He was special from the day we started educating him on our  own straight track and was soon going too fast for his own good.

We brought him along slowly, winning his maiden at Dubbo, then winning his 5th grades at Richmond before going to Wenty.

Bushy and I had many long trips to Sydney and used to stay over at a small motel at Richmond. Bushy would bunk down on the spare bed and would give me “the wet nose wake up call” at about 6.30 am.

By early 2007 the travel became too much for both him and me and we asked Jason McKay to train him for us.

Jason and Bushy became good mates from day one, with Jason remarking to me that the dog was “a true bushy” as he was laid back, easy tempered, but knew how to fire up when the chips were down.  Jason still laments him “being a certainty beaten” in the Richmond Derby, but that's racing.

Under Jason's care he ran 29.86 in a heat of The Golden Easter Egg (the fastest time of the series) and broke The Maitland 565m track record that had been held by Texas Gold for 2 years.

Jason had big plans for later in 2007, with an assault planned on some of Victorias group races. Unfortunately in a lead up race at Gosford he injured a hind muscle that flared up again when put back in training. The injury was not career ending, however we decided to retire him from racing to ensure his well being.

Our decision to stand him at stud is not a commercial one, but more tuned towards us watching his offspring race in the future.

I cant speak highly enough of John and Jane Carruthers who now look after Bushy at their place - Journey Park Stud. Jane spoils him rotten as do we on our frequent visits.

His track performances, along with his speed , stamina and keenness are a matter of record so I need not repeat them.

So what is that little special quality that Bushy will offer to breeders?

Like his mother he has just one of the best temperaments that you could wish for.

He is easy going and quite a big “goof” at times, friendly, east to handle and just a joy to be around, but when the lure starts up, every muscle and sinew will be straining.

He is a result that a lot of breeders wish for, he inherited his fathers speed and heart along with his mothers stamina and even temperament.

To me he is special and I am confident that he will pass these wonderful genes onto his “Little Bushy's”
